Workshop on making 24th scale kitchen table and chairs Materials: Depending on how many chairs you want to make you can get two out of a 15cm x 1.9 cm wide tongue depressor. Some MDF or balsa wood for the seats and front legs. Or you can use short lengths of bought wooden matchsticks for the legs. For table: a piece of MDF 3cm x 5cm by 3mm thick The table legs: these were two lengths of quarter round molding (life size) available from husband’s workshops or hardware stores. 2 x 3 cm lengths. Superglue Chair assembly 1. Mark out the shape on the tongue depressor. 2. Cut the length and carefully cut around the shape for the back legs with a sharp blade. A little at a time is best and watch the fingers. 3. Sand all edges smooth. 4. Make a seat out of 3mm MDF or balsa wood, 1.7 cm across x 1.5 cm deep. 5. Determine how you are going to make the front legs. Bought matchsticks are the right size. Some are not so tidy. You can cut some from balsa wood. 2 cm long. Cut notches in the front corners to take the legs. Glue a matchstick brace between the notches. 6. Using Superglue, glue the legs into the notches and the back of the seat against the back. Make sure all the legs sit flat on the surface. Hold until the glue sets. 7. For the table: sand all edges nice and smooth. Glue the two pieces of molding together along the handy flat center. Then glue to the bottom of the table top. 8. In this image, the legs were first painted with a dark brown acrylic then rubbed over with a bronze finish. They could be also painted with copper paint. 9. The top was painted black and sanded three times to get a nice finish. 10. The chairs were painted black, two or three coats. 11. A little piece of black leather was glued the seats to finish them. Miniature Time Traveller Magazine Issue #18 16
