Miniature Time Traveller Magazine Issue #18 20 How to make your room You will need a cardboard carton at least 16cm x 16cm x 19cm but not smaller. Glue, scissors, sellotape, 2 x ice cream sticks, 1mm cardboard. Some clear cellophane 1 Draw a curve on the side of the box and cut along. Do this on both sides. Remove the ‘front’. 2 Undo the bottom of the box and remove the flaps. Draw a window and then cut it out. Sellotape the box back up. 3 Lining the inside: Cut out a piece of paper or wallpaper or card. Fold one side to go around the corner and glue the paper to the carton wall. Do the other side the same. Cut a piece of the same paper for the back. Paste on the back wall, over the window. You can cut this out of the paper when the glue is dry. 4 Find a colorful piece of paper for the floor. Measure the sides carefully—twice—and mark out the size on your chosen paper. Cut out and glue down. 5 Hold a piece of card behind the opening for the window and draw around it. Then make another line 3mm in from that line. This is the line you will use to cut out the middle. Draw another line 1 cm out from the first line. This is now your frame. . 6 Find a piece of clear cellophane from packaging and sellotape to the back of the box on the outside. 7 Cut your ice cream sticks to fit around the frame. Paint them the colour you want. Make sure you paint the edges as well. 8 When your window frame is dry, glue it in place over the window opening. The frame should cover any ragged edges if any. 9 Glue some braid around the cut edge of the box. The cats are from the back of a calendar.
