After three days of torrential rain, a storm and extensive flooding in the Wairarapa a flight over the Cook Strait in brilliant sunshine was very uplifting. Even more so was the brilliant exhibition of work put on by the Nelson Miniature Club in July. The locally produced work was very impressive. Exhibitors also came north from Christchurch and others more local. 12th scale or 24th scale, the standard was extremely high and elicited remarks like ’Incredible’ and “Absolutely amazing’ as members of the public left the hall. The Hobbit Burrow was the most popular raffle. Regent Street, a row of Victorian shops in Christchurch was damaged by the Christchurch earthquake. The shops, while needed rebuilding or restoration fared better than some younger buildings in the centre of Christchurch. The members of the Christchurch Miniature Club set about creating their own miniature Regent Street.
