If you would like to sell you can use an auctioneer like Dunbar Sloan in Wellington and include your work in with their periodic Dolls and Miniatures Auctions. At the recent auction on 5th July there was only a very small selection of miniature dolls and furniture put up for sale among a huge selection of large dolls and train sets and matchbox toys. There is potential here as a doll house would certainly stand out and command attention. In auctions in the UK a large 8 room doll house can fetch between NZ$ 2000—3000. Here, probably a little lower. There are no benchmarks really. At a recent Dunbar Sloan auction an original boxed set of oak doll house furniture realized $130 and small selection of Doll House furniture including a die cast stove and fridge went for $90. Five Miniature Italian hand blown carafes fetched $30. If you are buying at the auction (heaven forbid, remember you are trying to downsize) there is a premium of 17% of the hammer price plus GST on the premium only . This effectively adds 19.55% to the hammer price. INSURANCE REMINDER If you are building up a collection of miniatures make sure they are itemized on your household insurance.
