Miniature Masterpieces in Tasmania. A Tasmanian artist, Joan Humble, is gathering acclaim. Joan has painted most of her life. She is now in her eighties and has put together an amazing exhibition of her work at the Lady Franklin Gallery, 268 Lenah Valley Road, Lenah Valley, Tasmania. It will be there across April and May this year. Joan paints large and small paintings and it is her miniatures that would interest us. Most are around 10 x 5 cm. Just the right size to enhance a doll house lounge, over a fireplace. As reported in the ABC news ‘Humble is known for her works in miniature, capturing vast vistas of wilderness in tiny works of art.’ "When you are looking at a miniature, you're looking at the whole subject, so everything has to work," she said. "Your eyes are not travelling around the painting; you can see exactly what's in front of you, so it's got to be right." In 2014, Humble won the Golden Bowl, the highest international prize for miniature artwork. Joan has a debilitating illness but vows to keep on painting as long as she can hold a paint brush.
